Gym Basics – First Time Gym Goer

First Time Gym Goer

Going to the gym nowadays can be extremely daunting, especially if you’re a new member or have only recently joined. The added pressure that society places on how people look can often lead to unhealthy comparisons to other people. If you’re a first time gym goer or don’t go too often check out or lad advice for gym basics and advice on how to get the most out of the gym.At LADVICE we’re telling you to STOP Here are some of our tips for you first time gym goers that no one else will tell you.

Dress comfortably:

It’s often perceived that in the gym you need to wear certain types of clothes. Stringers or wife beaters glued to your chest are not the only option. Wear what you find comfortable and what makes you best achieve your goals. Trying to lose weight, wear an extra layer to help you sweat. Or if you’re trying to improve your cardiovascular endurance wear loose clothes to give you more flexibility.

Trail gyms:

Just because the gym is right beside where you live or it’s where all your friends go doesn’t mean that you MUST go there. Try out a few gyms and see which one suits you best or you feel most comfortable in. Ask the staff for a trial period to see if you like it. Don’t ever feel pressured to go to a certain gym.

Ignore other people:

Stop caring about what other people are doing and concentrate on achieving your goals. We all have different targets that we set ourselves and yours are just as important as everyone else. Start at the beginning and set realistic goals that you can smash and then move onto the next one.

Keep track of your progress:

Keeping track of your progress is probably one of the most important tips we can offer. What is the point in spending money and time in going to the gym if you’re not keeping track of how you are progressing. Use an app to record the weight you are lifting one week and try to improve it every week/month we suggest the app RepCount, it’s free and easy to use.

Enjoy your food:

You don’t need to count calories to have a good diet. Stop listening to people telling you about their macros and micros because honestly, we don’t care. Having a good diet means that you can have a treat every now and again.

And you can enjoy it. Have a good breakfast and lunch and this will mean you won’t be snacking throughout the day. If you’re going out drinking, enjoy! But if you’re ordering a chinese after maybe get the smaller sized option or only get the burger minus the chips. Food should be enjoyed and can be as part of a healthy diet.
